Family History
Red's mother was Gertrude "Dot" Ludlow, great
grand-daughter of John Ludlow. John arrived in Cincinnati in June, 1789 and was brother to Israel
Ludlow, who arrived in January 1789 by canoe. Israel was one of the three founders of Cincinnati, the surveyor who laid out downtown Cincinnati, Columbus &
Dayton and the namesake of Ludlow, Kentucky where he frequently hunted. John was the first sheriff of
and Ohio Congressman from Hamilton County, Ohio. He also ran Ludlow Station, a stage coach stop one
day's ride north along the Mill Creek.
